This fascinating area of mainland Greece offers the visitor an insight into Greece’s vast and varied history, both ancient and modern. The Peloponnese is the southernmost region of mainland Greece and has been inhabited since prehistoric times. It is a region steeped in myths, legends and history as well as offering a spectacular landscape of towering mountains, verdant rolling hills and beautiful coastlines. This tour takes in some of the best known sites in the area, exposing a broad scope of the region’s history amidst some wonderful scenery.
In addition to the above, we are pleased to say, the base for our tour is Nafplio, one of the most attractive and charming of mainland Greek towns, and one that testifies to the remarkable history of modern Greece, with its castle, held both by Venetians and by the Ottomans, and with its many monuments and statues that tell the story of how this little place was, for a short time, the first capital of modern Greece. From our comfortable hotel set in a 19th century neo-classical building, we will visit the palaces of the ‘Golden Age’ Tiryns and Mycenae, the best-preserved Greek theatre at Epidaurus, and the extraordinary deserted Byzantine city of Mystra. Amidst the expanse of history we will uncover we will also enjoy a leisurely boat trip to the lovely island of Hydra.
